Budget includes TWRA improvements

NASHVILLE — Governor Phil Bredesen's Fiscal Year 2007-2008 state budget includes several improvements for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The governor submitted his budget last month. It is currently being considered by the General Assembly.

The budget includes $1.1 million for TWRA projects in seven counties. Among that total, funds in the amount of $309,000 would come from federal moneys, with the state funding the remaining $833,000.

The most costly project would be water control structures at the Joachim Bible Refuge at Lick Creek in Greene County. That project cost would be $545,000. Other projects would include a new office for the Royal Blue Wildlife Management Area in Campbell County ($185,000); land improvements at the Second Baptist Church along the Clinch River in Anderson County ($148,000); and an expansion of the Humboldt Hatchery Pond and Water Reservoir in Gibson County ($135,000).

Additional projects include roof replacements on buildings of the Flintville Hatchery in Lincoln County ($51,000); roof replacements on buildings at the Tellico Hatchery in Monroe County ($49,000); and a boat ramp expansion at Dandridge Bridge in Jefferson County ($29,000).

The governor's budget also calls for an $82 million capital outlay note to fund a land conservation project on the northern Cumberland Plateau, part of which would involve the establishment of a new wildlife management area.
