Tennessee's second early waterfowl season will open Saturday, as the five-day wood duck/teal season opens statewide.
The opening of the season, which will run through Wednesday, September 13, comes on the heels of the early Canada goose season, which opened on September 1. That season continues through Friday, September 15.
The daily bag limit for wood duck/teal is four birds, no more than two of which may be wood ducks. The daily bag limit for Canada geese is five birds.
The hunting hours for all waterfowl in Tennessee are 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset. Non-toxic shot is required. Shotguns capable of holding more than three shells must be plugged with a one-piece filler that is incapable of being remoed without disassembling the gun. A Tennessee migratory bird permit is required, in addition to other required hunting licenses.
As of Saturday, open seasons across Tennessee include squirrel, dove, Canada goose and wood duck/teal. The next season to open will be raccoon season, which opens at sunset on Friday, September 15 in most of Tennessee. The only counties where raccoon season doesn't open are Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Monroe, Polk, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington. In those counties, the season will open on November 3.
The first big game season to open is archery deer/turkey season, which opens on Saturday, September 23.
