Right to Hunt amendment

WHAT? A proposal to amend Tennessee's constitution to make hunting and fishing a right in Tennessee.

NOTABLES: Nearly 100 legislators have signed on as co-sponsors of the constitutional amendment . . . The bill can be read in its entirety here.

OUR POSITION: This is a fine bill that will hopefully pass and give Tennessee voters an opportunity to decide whether the Volunteer State should constitutionally protect the right to hunt and fish.

THE LATEST: The bill passed the State House by an 89-1 vote on March 17 and action on the bill is now completed for 2008. The bill will now go back before the legislature next term and must pass by a two-thirds majority vote. It would then be placed on the ballot for a referendum vote, probably in 2010.
