Fishing Licenses
The following are licenses and permits that apply to Tennessee anglers. Licenses go on sale on Feb. 18 each year and are valid from March 1 throug February 28 of the following year. Licenses can be purchased from many retailers across Tennessee, most county clerk offices, or any office of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Licenses can also be purchased via telephone, 1-888-814-8972, or online at TWRA's website, tnwildlife.org.
• Who can purchase a resident license?
Anyone who possesses a valid Tennessee driver's license, anyone who has lived in Tennssee for 90 consecutive days with the genuine intent of making Tennessee their permanent home, military personnel on active duty in this state and their immediate families who reside with them, and students who are enrolled in a Tennessee school, college or university for at least six months.
• Who doesn't need a license?
Youths under the age of 13 (resident or nonresident) . . . Landowners, their spouses and their children who fish on their farmland which is owned by an individual or a family. Landowners, their spouses and children must be residents of the state of Tennessee but need not reside on the land . . . Tenants, their spouses and dependent children who fish on farm land owned by an individual or a family. Tenants, their spouses and dependant children must be residents of Tennessee and must actually reside on the land and have permission of the landowner to fish. A tenant is a person who, for money, free rent, or other consideration, cares for farmland. The tenancy must be agricultural in nature . . . First cousins who own farmland jointly or in common may fish on the farmland. Their children may fish as well . . . You are on military leave, carrying a copy of your leave orders. A pass does not meet this requirement . . . You are a resident who was born before March 1, 1926 (to qualify, you must carry proof of your age and residency to show a wildlife officer if requested) . . . It's Free Fishing Day (held each June) . . . You're age 15 or younger and it's Free Fishing Week (held each June).
• Misplaced a license?
TWRA will replace licenses for a charge of $7. If the license was purchased at a license agent, a replacement may be obtained by going to any agent.

Annual Hunting & Fishing Combo (Type 001): $28
Supplemental stamp required for trout
Jr. Hunt/Fish/Trap (Type 002): $8
Ages 13-15
One-Day Fishing (Type 021): $5.50
Supplemental stamp required for trout
Annual Trout (Type 022): $18
Supplemental license required in addition to Type 001, Type 020 or Type 021
Sportsman License (Type 004): $136
All-inclusive license that does not require supplemental licenses or permits.
Lifetime Sportsman:
Under 3 years: $200
Ages 3-6: $540
Ages 7-12: $810
Ages 13-50: $1,620
Ages 51-64: $945
Ages 65 and over: $270
All-inclusive license that doesn't require supplemental tags. Available only from TWRA offices or online at tnwildlife.org.
Permanent Senior Citizen Hunt/Fish/Trap (Type 166): $11
Ages 65 and older. Trout stamp not required.
Annual Senior Citizen Permit (Type 167): $41
Purchased as a supplement to cover all permits needed in current license year.
County of Residence Fishing (Type 020): $9
For fishing in county of residence with natural bait (no minnows or artificial baits). Supplemental trout stamp required.

Ages 13-15. Good for fishing & small game only.
