Bear Hunting Seasons
NOTES: The limit on bear for any person cannot exceed one bear per calendar year . . . Cubs or female bears with cubs at side may not be taken at any time. A cub is defined as a bear weighing 75 pounds or less . . . All bears must be checked out at an official bear checking station designated by TWRA. Bears may be whole or field dressed but must weigh 75 pounds or greater when checked in . . . The reproductive (sex) organs must remain attached to each bear harvested until the bear has been officially checked out at an official bear checking station (see list at bottom of page) . . . Bear sanctuaries are closed to hunting.
2006 HUNTING SEASONS:
Sept. 25 - Oct. 1 (Blount, Cocke*, Sevier): Gun/muzzleloader/archery. Dogs permitted. One bear, either sex.
Oct. 7 - 15 (Blount, Sevier): Archery. Dogs prohibited. One bear, either sex.
Nov. 13 - 14 (Carter, Cocke**, Greene, Johnson, Monroe, Polk***, Sevier, Unicoi, Washington): Gun/muzzleloader/archery. Dogs permitted. One bear, either sex.
Nov. 13 - 16 (Blount, Cocke*, Sevier): Gun/muzzleloader/archery. Dogs permitted. One bear, either sex.
Nov. 25 - 26 (Blount, Carter, Cocke, Greene, Johnson, Monroe, Polk*, Sevier, Sullivan****, Unicoi, Washington): Gun/muzzleloader/archery. Dogs prohibited. One bear, either sex.
Nov. 30 - Dec. 8 (Blount, Cocke*, Sevier): Gun/muzzleloader/archery. Dogs permitted. One bear, either sex.
Nov. 30 - Dec. 13 (Carter, Cocke**, Greene, Johnson, Monroe, Polk***, Sullivan****, Unicoi, Washington): Gun/muzzleoader/archery. Dogs permitted. One bear, either sex.

BEAR DOG TRAINING SEASON:
Sept. 5 - 18. Blount (private land only), Carter (private land only), Cocke, Greene, Johnson (private land only), Sevier and Sullivan (private land only) counties. No bears may be taken. No weapons may be possessed. Training during daylight hours only.

The following are official bear checking stations that have been designated by TWRA. All bears must be checked at an official checking station.
